Questions Frequently Asked about TRTP
1. What makes it different from other modalities?
Trauma is not stored in the conscious mind. Trauma is stored in the subconscious mind and in the body. (Levine, can der Kolk, Ogden) TRTP™ works where the trauma is stored, and addresses it there.
TRTP™ also arrests client self-sabotage before it begins. It does this in the first session, by changing the unhelpful negative unconscious core beliefs to the positive. For example, if the unconscious has the belief , ‘It’s not safe to get well’ – self-sabotage will be the result. The unconscious will keep the client safe, according to its own beliefs. If this unconscious core belief is changed to ‘It’s safe to get well’ – then obviously, a positive outcome will be achieved more quickly, without the unconscious attempting to keep the client ‘safe’ in unwellness.
2. Do you have evidence-based research on TRTP™?
As Norman Doidge, of brain plasticity renown, says, ‘When you’re on the cutting-edge, you don’t have time to sit in research projects for years. You just get on with it, otherwise, you are no longer on the cutting edge. ‘AND we have our first research project underway.
We have been teaching TRTP™ for a short time. We are embarking on our first pilot study. This study is being designed / overseen by members of our graduate community – Dr Martha Landman, Dr Jenni Rice and Dr Rosemary Boon.
Before coming to TRTP™, Martha received an award for co-ordinating the effective Mater Hospital PTSD unit in Townsville, Qld. Jenni Rice lectured at Melbourne University for many years, in research design. Rosemary is a leader in the area of neuro-feedback..
3.What evidence do you have that TRTP™ works?
Simply the experience of approximately 100 TRTP practitioners, Australia wide. Feel free to speak with any of them. We are currently writing up case studies with a view to publishing. The cases range from extreme PTSD, anxiety disorders, depression, fears and phobias, dissociative disorder.
Our first pilot study is currently being launched.
4.What clinical presentations does it resolve?
We are currently doing case studies on the outcomes of TRTP™ with extreme complex PTSD, PTSD, multiple dissociative disorder, anxiety disorders, depression, fears and phobias and other trauma-related issues.
5. Does this course teach people to be hypnotherapists.?
No. This is not a course teaching people to be hypnotherapists.
It teaches how to resolve trauma.
Within that, it teaches hypnosis as a tool. It does not teach hypnotherapy.
Hypnosis is the framework, or state, within which the therapy is done. This allows the therapy to speak directly to the unconscious and to the body, where the trauma is stored.
Trauma is NOT stored in the conscious mind.
6. Can I use it for PD points?
It is up to each student to approach their own professional association regarding this. However this is an education program designed to expand the skills of the practitioner and as such most organisations accept TRTP as acceptable for PD points.
7. Q. How hard is it to learn? How much time will I need to invest during the training?
The TRTP™ training program requires attendance for 2 x 1 ½ hour personal sessions with a mentor, being stepped through the first 2 sessions of TRTP™, exactly as your future clients will be. There’s nothing like experiential learning, is there?
Homework will be required before the first of these sessions.
Attendance is required for the 3-day Intensive Workshop.
After the workshop you are required to work with 10 clients, using TRTP™. Your mentor will be available to advise, ‘hold your hand’ while you engage in TRTP™ with these first clients.
You are required to deliver to your mentor 5 recordings of client sessions, during the 5 weeks following the 3-day Workshop. With these recordings your mentor will be able to coach you.
8. Is there a guarantee that I WILL be effective in using TRTP™?
No. As with everything in life, the more one applies oneself, the better results one will achieve.
9. What’s in it for me if I do the TRTP™ training program?
Most mental health therapists want to achieve a faster, more effective result for their clients. TRTP™ delivers this. Many therapists work alone, with occasional supervision. The TRTP™ Graduate Community is a vibrant, warm, generous group of therapists whose norm is excellence. Our graduates report that being part of the Graduate Community has been one of the greatest bonuses of doing the TRTP™ training. Our community offers continual professional and personal support, as well as on-going training. It is a place of safety, growth and extra-ordinariness.
10. Am I going to get value for money?
This depends on what you do with the training. As with anything, the more you put in, the more value you get out. The majority of our graduates report that the TRTP™ training program is transformative – both personally and professionally.
11. Is TRTP™ a good business investment?
This is dependent upon you and how well you run your business. TRTP™ works. Generally it resolves major issues in 3 sessions. The 3 sessions are priced, by most of our TRTP practitioners, as a “course”, not as individual sessions, for $1000. 2 new clients per week achieves $100k per annum income.
12. How long does it work for?
We have followed some past clients for over 3 ½ years with continuing positive outcomes.
13. How did you learn how to do this therapy? Where? What is your training and experience?
Judith did not simply learn TRTP™ from somewhere / someone else. TRTP™ came into being as the result of her own harrowing journey through extreme trauma and PTSD breakdown, and her own resourceful navigation through to the other side of it. She is not a psychologist. However, she does know trauma – inside out and from every angle. AND she knows what is required to step someone through to the other side of their pain.
Her students are achieving and repeating the same ‘staggering’ results with their clients that Judith achieves.
14. Will The Richards Trauma Process™ work with all patients, 100% of the time?
Of course not. There are never any guarantees in life. A successful outcome using The Richards Trauma Process™ is dependent on many elements which include and are not limited to the following;
The willingness of the client to fully engage with the process.
The environment that dominates the client’s world. A toxic environment will significantly reduce the potential for success of recovery for any client, if that client chooses to remain within that environment.
The skill level of the practitioner. The more practice, the better we all become in all elements of life.
As with any therapy, secondary benefits of the client, if not successfully dealt with, will interfere with a positive outcome. As the philosopher Seneca stated, 2000 years ago, ‘It is part of the cure to wish to be cured.’
15. Will I be able to assist with the Evidence Based Research Program which investigates The Richards Trauma Process™?
Absolutely. We will be inviting all those who wish to contribute to the collection of studies and survey information to become fully engaged. A team of past graduates, associated academics, and researchers is gathering to ensure this process is fully supported.
16. I’m finding the outcomes of this process sound too good to be true.
It does sound too good to be true. Using current mental health practices, extraordinarily positive, quick outcomes are generally rare. The usual outcome is one of slow, incremental change.
We seem to have an entrenched view that if a person has been sick for a long time, it will take a long time for them to become well.
But what if that’s no longer necessary?
It makes sense that if a different outcome is being achieved, a different approach must be being used. It stands to logic that with TRTP™ we are doing something different. And we are.
17. Is TRTP™ recognised on medicare mental health plans.
18. It’s a significant investment.
Yes, it’s a significant investment for significant outcomes, including the Graduate Community.
Our graduates report:
- Exhilaration rather than exhaustion at the end of the day.
- Experiencing major emotional satisfaction due to the positive results achieved.
- Receiving a high hourly rate for their work whilst at the same time achieving an economical solution for the client through speed and effectiveness.
- Above all, they report personal transformation.
And, we are only interested in attracting students genuinely interested in actively using TRTP™.
19. Can I talk to graduates?
We would love you to talk to our graduates. They are all listed in our practitioner directory on this website. However, please be respectful of their time. They, like you, are generally running their own businesses and their time is valuable to them. We suggest that you use their email address to negotiate an appropriate time to connect, or ask questions via email.
20. Can you do therapy over the phone? Over the Internet?
TRTP™ is effective over video conferencing calls. It is important for both the client and the therapist to have a headset.
The phone is not suitable for delivering TRTP.
21. How long is the training program?
The initial intensive training period is 8 weeks, followed by 2 months of being closely involved in our graduate community, with a weekly one-hour conference call as well as the on-line forum. Through these 2 avenues, assistance is always available for those tricky cases.
The initial 8 weeks training begins with you having 2 sessions, one-on-one with your mentor – face to face or by video conference call. You experience the first 2 sessions of TRTP™ just as your future clients will. And yes, you work on your own ‘stuff’. There’s nothing like experiential learning.
This is followed by a 3-day Intensive Workshop.
For the next 5 weeks there is a 2-hour video conference call each week. During this 5 weeks, you will work with 10 of your own clients, using TRTP™. Your mentor will ‘hold your hand’ and will be there to advise you, particularly in the first 2 weeks of this period. You will also have access to the on-line forum, where all our community post questions, tricky cases, learnings and celebrations. This forum is a wonderful resource. Our graduates, mentors and Judith, are generous and warm in their advice and assistance.
During this 5 weeks you will be required to deliver 5 recordings of sessions to your mentor, so that they can give feedback and coaching. This is a fabulous opportunity for accelerated learning.
